Vasyl Hamianin, the ambassador of Ukraine to Indonesia, stated that President Volodymyr Zelensky would attend the G20 summit in Bali provided Russian President Vladimir Putin did as well. |
President Volodymyr Zelensky may attend the G20 summit in Bali in November if Russian President Vladimir Putin does, according to Vasyl Hamianin, the Ukrainian ambassador in Jakarta.
President Joko Widodo had stated that Putin would attend the G20 summit later; however, the Kremlin has not yet confirmed it. President Hamianin then made this declaration.
On Wednesday (24/8), Hamianin said in Jakarta, "The official office commented and said that if Putin would visit, then the president [Volodymyr Zelensky] would probably attend, but not for discussions or anything."
Even so, he doesn't think Putin will show up to the G20. Hamianin is also doubtful that the forum will be able to end the conflict between the two nations.
"It won't happen, in my opinion. Not because Russia can't afford peace talks, but because Ukraine, I don't think it's conceivable "He clarified.
Hamianin claims that numerous attempts at negotiation have been made, but none of them have succeeded in bringing about a cease-fire. He claimed that Russia was still waging ferocious assaults against Ukraine.

He claimed that Russia was only interested in peace talks if Ukraine gave up some of its territory.
Hamianin reiterated that the land and sovereignty of Ukraine were not up for sale. The Kyiv government's wishes were then highlighted by him.
"All lands must be liberated, and no Russian personnel may remain [in Ukraine] if we deal with Russia," he continued.
President Zelensky's attendance at the G20 is something that Hamianin stated the country's leaders are willing to go, but they are still weighing their options.
My president was quite specific about his direct presence [at the G20 Bali summit], so I don't think I'm making anything up, Hamianin remarked.
Vasyl added that there were further reasons why the top Ukrainian official was not present at the business event.
Ukraine's political situation is one of them. Zelensky couldn't just quit Kyiv, the nation's capital, he continued. He will, however, only attend if the crowd permits.
It also depends on who is present at the G20 Summit, according to Vassyl.

He clarified that the choice of whether to attend in person or virtually would be made towards the end of August or the beginning of September.
Regardless, Putin will attend the G20, according to Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
The Kremlin has not yet made an official announcement, though. They merely promised to inform them when the G20 summit's schedule was approaching.
Jokowi has already stated that he is prepared to mediate the situation between the two nations.
