On August 30, 2022, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will meet in Kiev before the mission to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
KIEV - Inspection teams from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have arrived in Kiev to evaluate the condition at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (NPP).
CNN broke the news on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
With the largest nuclear reactor in Europe at the center of the crisis in southern Ukraine, Russia and Ukraine have accused one another of bombarding the facility.
Fears of a potential nuclear accident like to the one at Chernobyl in 1986 were raised by reports of missiles and missiles landing close to the site.
The inspectors were reportedly observed by CNN reporters at their hotel in the Ukrainian capital.
The long-awaited mission trip was announced by IAEA chief Rafael Grossi on Monday.
Days after Moscow began its military action in Ukraine, Russian forces captured the nuclear power facility.

The facility is still running under Russian administration with local workers. Last week, the nuclear power plant was entirely disconnected from the electrical system before starting up again.
Russia is allegedly utilizing the facility as a safe haven for its troops, according to Ukrainian and US officials.
While this is going on, Moscow maintains that it does not maintain heavy weapons, including as artillery, stationed at the nuclear power facility.
International inspectors will examine the nuclear reactor and evaluate the facility's damage.
